the things i do...

sometimes (and maybe this is wrong of me to feel) but it can be more challenging to maintain the schedule of a coach. i teach, i grade, i coach, i debrief, i co-plan, i co-teach, i meet (there's a lot of those)... so time is of the essence.

sometimes teachers want me to observe a specific class. some teachers require me to be in their classroom 3 times in a given week... sometimes i go through the full cycle of co-plan, pre-brief, observe, and debrief. allll this times 3 ELA, 3 math, 3 science, 2 SS, 2 SPED teachers = 13 teachers! now of course, this is not my regular load necessarily...that would be 3 ELA, 2 SS, 1-2 SPED, and now about 2 math...but it can get crazy.

yesterday i taught DS's history class...we decided that it would be helpful for him to observe me teach a lesson, then we'll co-teach that same lesson to the next cohort, and then he'll teach it to the final cohort on his own. honestly, it was delightful to be teaching a classroom of students for 95 minutes...and i hope it was helpful (we'll see from our debrief today).

but the question remains: is this part of what a coach does? in my opinion, yes. why? we identify pushes and we support the push and sometimes the support or problem solving comes through something like this... i guess i maintain this mentality...i make myself available for my teachers in the same manner i would and did make myself available to my students as a teacher.

to me, i am their number one fan, and if they choose to accept and be supported, then the more productive we can be as a team, just as it was in the classroom...perhaps this blurs the lines of professionalism but i think it strengthens the work of collaboration.
