Position Summary – UCW Literacy Specialist (Key note: I developed this by myself...)
The candidate is charged with:
• Supporting school-level implementation of the Balanced Literacy Framework to meet the academic needs of students;
• Building the capacity of school staff, with a focus on teachers, to provide high quality literacy instruction to students;
• Utilizing the instructional coaching process to focus on support for teachers and school leaders around evidence-based instructional strategies for students;
• Supporting in the facilitation of professional development with the goals of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity in schools.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide instructional coaching to all middle school teachers in the content areas of Social Studies and English/Language Arts. This would involve:
o Weekly non-evaluative observations (pre-brief, observation, debrief)
o Support teachers in setting instructional goals (action points) stemmed from observations
o Support teachers on effectively implementing goals into classroom (co-planning, co-teaching, identifying resources, modeling supports, etc.)
o Monitor implementation of strategies; provide feedback to teachers based on monitoring / observation
- Facilitate the implementation of the workshop model in all classrooms and specifically the Balanced Literacy framework in ELA classrooms
- Research and identify resources, readings, and other materials to support staff around high quality, effective literacy instruction
- Plan and facilitate professional development for teachers on delivery of high quality, comprehensive literacy instruction and use of tools to guide practice
- Effectively and consistently communicate with Directors regarding instructional staff growth and concerns
MEASURABLE GOALS
- Teacher growth in areas indicated by action plan according to formal evaluations (Instructional Rubric)
- Aggregate Data of Staff Performance based on Instructional Rubric
- Teacher satisfaction (SATISFACTION???), reflection statements on instructional practice (End of T1, T2, T3)
- Record of consistent coaching and growth in areas of focus
- Student Growth (F&P Levels, NWEA, ISAT)
