walking out (10.11.11)

at the end of the day, N bum rushed me to tell me that her history teacher left in the middle of class. literally got up and left after a conversation with M. apparently M jumped in during a class and called him out on not sticking to the class agenda. then there was some back and forth and he left. N was upset. visibly. i feel powerless to explain to this former student of mine why a teacher who worked hard and reached out to the kids would want to be pushed out of a school. i encourage my student to speak up, to ask questions. but today, they were silenced. because when they tried to talk or ask, they were told to not speak. as a staff member, i have heard nothing about the situation. which then will lead to gossip and rumors... already i've heard 3 different versions.

where does this leave the kids?

they see that teachers are not respected, voices are silenced, of both teachers and students, and the world continues on like normal.
