my kids, the writers...

as i was finally getting around to grading my students' personal essays (that were written at the beginning of the month), i was blown away by some of the final pieces and the thoughts that were compiled in their essays.

like jarrod's...
Title: "Drug, Family, Destruction!"

Intro: You know drugs can be the leading cause of death. Once you start it is hard to stop. When taking drugs you can hurt the people you love and the people who love you. Smoking weed becomes a bad influence to kids around weed and other drugs.

Topic Sentence 1: You know people who do things such as using their kids to buy drugs for illegal activities such as using or for selling drugs are just monsters in all possible ways.

Topic Sentence 2: Parents are not taking the time to see if their kids are doing what they do; in other words, they can find the time to use drugs but when it comes to their kids, its always "not now" or "too busy."

or deandre's...
Title: "Sudden Change"
Intro: The most caring person to you has passed a while back. You felt the same at first. Now things aren't as enjoyable. You get frustrated a lot. You do or say things that you don't mean. This is what happens when someone valuable passes. The same thing happened t me. When my mom was alive, I was fine. Now I feel different.

they truly are the writers of the here and now.
hear their voices.
they deserve to be heard.

  1. I really appreciate the deliberate pacing of Deandre's intro, and how it goes from second to first person. Amazing.
